Nov. 3--The upcoming purchase of 2,000 acres of prime land in Fort Bend County will intensify the pace of development there.
The acreage, which had been used as prison farm land for years, is near U.S. 59, Texas 6 and U.S. 90-A.
Newland Communities was the high bidder to buy the 2,000 acres being sold by the Texas General Land Office. Newland, which has developed a number of big master-planned communities, entered a bid of $37.5 million for the prison farm land.
