Nov. 7--With the Republican Party now in control of the executive and legislative branches of government, the GOP may have a much freer hand in setting national policy. Here are areas that may be affected:

ENVIRONMENT:

The GOP will have more freedom to ease laws limiting power-plant pollution, less pressure to tax businesses to clean up toxic waste, and another shot, though perhaps a long one, on drilling for oil in the Arctic.
