NORFOLK -- In an effort to head off rumors, Navy officials confirmed Monday that the carrier Theodore Roosevelt battle group will enter its training schedule earlier than planned - but only by two weeks.
The move is not due to rising tensions with Iraq, Navy officials said, but is in response to changes in ship overhaul schedules.
``We want to kill the notion that she is ramping up for some early action over there in Iraq,'' said Capt. Mike Brady, the Navy's senior spokesman for the Atlantic Fleet. ``We are not doing that.''
