WASHINGTON -- Civil justice reform advocates are urging the Supreme Court of the United States to strengthen Constitutional guidelines it has already established in past punitive damages cases.
Today, the Court heard oral arguments challenging the imposition of punitive damages awards in State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company v. Curtis B. Campbell and Inez Preece Campbell (No. 01-1289). This is the eighth time since 1986 the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled on Constitutional questions pertaining to punitive damages.
