Dec. 8--The hardest thing about establishing a Christmas tree farm in Oklahoma is getting the trees to grow, said Bill Ross, Oklahoma State University Extension Forestry specialist.
"It's just hard to grow Christmas trees in general," said Ross, who serves as an adviser to the Oklahoma Christmas Tree Association.
In Oklahoma, drought, disease, extreme temperatures, insects and a dozen other elements complicate the whole process.
Despite all that, Oklahoma farms sold around 20,000 home-grown trees last year. And, Ross said it's a business that could use even ...
