Prior to transplanting himself to the West Coast a few years ago, Chris Stuart was the leader and creative force behind Cornerstone, a stylish bluegrass band based in Ithaca, New York. Cornerstone managed to fuse contemporary material and sensibilities with a traditional edge convincing enough that Bill Monroe once joined them on stage. Outside the band, Stuart's songs found currency with established bluegrass artists like Claire Lynch and Suzanne Thomas, who chose his "Dear Hearts and Gentle Friends" as the title track for her 1999 solo Rounder release. And, if you listen carefully, you just might hear his "Twenty Naked Pentecostals in a Pontiac" ...
