In light of the dramatic changes in the world since Sept. 11, I looked forward to seeing what veteran writer-director Maxine Klein would concoct in "Ambush." Her idea here is to make fun of President Bush, oppose war with Iraq and underline the threats to personal freedom posed by the domestic war on terrorism.
But the low-budget play with songs, which opened Friday in Minneapolis, is a disappointment. The critiques aren't that sharp, and despite its title, "Ambush" lacks surprise.
The large cast is of mostly young performers; they give it their best shot, keeping things moving in the 90-minute show.
