The Colorado Division of Wildlife will not feed deer and elk in areas infected with chronic wasting disease, even though it may mean starvation for thousands of animals on the drought-stricken lands.
The Colorado Wildlife Commission voted unanimously Tuesday to halt artificial winter feeding for deer and elk in CWD areas in an attempt to slow the spread of the fatal brain-wasting sickness.
``When wild animals are artificially fed, they congregate, and that makes it more likely that the disease will spread. That's true of any mammal population,'' said Division of Wildlife spokesman Todd Malmsbury. ...
