Charles Dickens wrote his beloved "A Christmas Carol" in part to turn a quick profit. Chicago's Goodman Theatre staged the production 135 years later to make some money during the traditionally tough holiday theater season.
But the impact of both story and stage production goes far beyond dollars and cents.
While "A Christmas Carol" has grown into a classic worldwide, the Goodman's version has matured into a rich Chicago tradition - as much a part of the city's holiday season as lunching in the Walnut Room or browsing the windows along State Street.
