NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Red Sox promise a new-look bullpen in 2003, and that hasn't gone unnoticed by New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman. In fact, the fiscal belt-tightening in New York could lead to one of the Yankees' most valuable relievers signing with the Sox.

Ramiro Mendoza, who along with Mike Stanton was not offered arbitration by the Yankees last week, is now a free agent. While the Red Sox haven't expressed much of an interest in reacquiring Stanton - a left-hander who worked out of the bullpen in 1995 when the Sox won the AL East title - Cashman wouldn't be surprised by a Mendoza-Red Sox fit.
