So the church, which counts time in millennia, has suddenly moved in nanoseconds. Bernard Cardinal Law is gone within a year of the first scandal stories. His resignation is tendered and accepted on the very same day.
So the church, which supposedly takes orders from only Rome - top down, pope to bishop to priest to pew - has suddenly surrendered to a bottom-up revolt.
The devout grandmothers in Voice of the Faithful finally had enough. Joe Gallagher and his lonely band of protesters finally drew hundreds outside the Cathedral of the Holy Cross. The long-suffering priests could take it no more.
