THE PRIME MINISTER has made it clear that he is interested in continuing the reconciliation process with Aborigines and has established a taskforce to work on a statement which will embody recognition of prior occupation of the Australian continent by Aborigines and of the fact that they have been ill-treated in the past. His indication of this to the council for reconciliation was favourably received, but it immediately became clear that the stumbling block will be the issue of an apology on behalf of the Australian government and people. Many on his own side of politics believe that this is the proper way to go.
