Jul. 18--Immunex's 1,500 employees began learning Wednesday who will stay in Seattle and who will go as new owner Amgen Inc. began to consolidate operations. Amgen managers have a full plate as they work not only to insure a smooth transition for workers of the two companies, but also reassure investors that the $9.5 billion merger that closed this week will yield long-term benefits.
In addition, a key regulatory approval for a recently launched Amgen product is anticipated later this week. It would give the company powerful ammunition against a longtime rival.
