WHITE SANDS MISSILE RANGE, N.M.--Army Space and Missile Defense Command (SMDC) officials continue to test a new Solid State Heat Capacity Laser (SSHCL) that eventually could be integrated into a vehicle, SMDC officials here reported.
The Army program officials said they hope to demonstrate a 100-kilowatt SSHCL by 2007.
Late last year, Army engineers at the High Energy Laser Systems Test Facility (HELSTF) at White Sands started test firing the new 10 kilowatt Solid State Heat Capacity Laser in a series of demonstration tests (Defense Daily, Dec. 12).
