A good few more than seven Swans will be swimming with Christmas cheer over the next fortnight as the area's pubs gear up for their busiest time of the year.
And while there are more pubs called The Red Lion than any other, according to Harry Walshaw of the Inn Sign Society, The Swan definitely numbers among the top ten most popular inn names.
'There's a lot of myth and legend surrounding the swan, and one might think there was some religious significance to the name, as there was with a lot of pubs,' says Walshaw.
