Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., thought he was opposing the U.S. Senate's proposal to increase the use of ethanol as a fuel. But he actually gave a good reason for Wisconsin to support the plan, when he complained that it would result in "a massive transfer of wealth" from his state to the Midwest.
Indeed, boosting the use of ethanol as an alternative to imported oil would help Wisconsin and the rest of the Midwest, where most of the corn and other crops used to produce ethanol are grown and where most ethanol plants are located.
But the best reason to support a provision to increase the use of ethanol is that it's good for the country, including Waxman's ...
