Modernists envision a world that is freed from the natural constraints of our bodies and the environment. By exerting control over nature to create an artificial world, "Modern Man" demonstrates his rational autonomy, his supreme attribute. Feminists are concerned that we have little questioned this rejection and destruction of the natural environment in building an artificial world. Our indifferent attitude towards nature stems from the low status that embodied life has held in modern patriarchal culture.
