2002 DEC 26 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- by Maria G. Essig, MS, ELS, senior medical writer - After a weight-loss diet, black women became less fit and were less likely to exercise, in contrast to white women, who engaged in higher levels of physical activity and increased in fitness.
"Black women are at greater risk of obesity than are white women, perhaps because of their lower levels of physical activity," speculated Roland L. Weinsier and colleagues at the University of Alabama. "We compared free-living activity energy expenditure in sedentary white and black women (in overweight and normal-weight states) and in never-overweight control subjects."
