THE NATIONAL Council of Churches has urged President Bush to "do all possible" to avoid war with Iraq and to stop "demonizing adversaries or enemies" with good vs. evil rhetoric.
The annual General Assembly, which met in Tampa, Florida, November 14-16, commended Bush for consulting with Congress and the UN before an attack, but said churches remained "deeply concerned about the rise of militarism and the escalation of violence." The NCC "is especially concerned that in its objectives, the United States is increasingly militaristic and unilateral in pursuing political and economic goals," a unanimous resolution declared.
