While virtual schooling is definitely in vogue, it is not without controversy. School superintendents and teachers unions have spoken out about funding and quality control issues associated with cyberschools in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Wisconsin (see ISEM, Dec 2002, May 2002.). Advanced Academics (Oklahoma City, OK) has maneuvered around the potential mine fields of virtual education by partnering with districts, offering them the potential of retaining at-risk students-and their financial subsidies- and reaching out to home schoolers.
