Union Bank of California's second insurance agency acquisition, announced Thursday, would give it a sizable presence in San Diego, a key market for the bank, according to Richard C. Hartnack, its vice chairman.
Union Bank will keep looking for large regional agency acquisitions to fill out its footprint in the Bay Area, the Central Valley of California, and greater Los Angeles, Mr. Hartnack said.
The $37.6 billion-asset subsidiary of UnionBanCal Corp. said it had agreed to buy John Burnham & Co., a San Diego insurance agency with 103 employees and $200 million of annual premium. Burnham does business under the name John Burnham Insurance Services. Union ...
