There's more to Bigfoot
Regarding The Register-Guard's Dec. 13 editorial "Bigfoot, 1958-2002," let me begin by saying I do not believe in Bigfoot!
My mother's family homesteaded near Kelso, Wash., and in 1924 my grandfather John Beck, my great-uncle Fred Beck, and four others had a gold prospect called the VanderWhite on the east flank of Mount St. Helens.
One day at the mine they supposedly saw a large hairy beast, which uncle Fred shot - causing it to fall into a deep defile now known as Ape Canyon. That night, several ape-like beasts allegedly attacked the miners in their cabin, throwing rocks and jumping ...
