Dec. 20--The Army has the Green Berets. The Navy has its SEALs.
And now, officials said Thursday, the war on terror is leading the Marine Corps for the first time into the elite special-forces business.
The Marines will call their experimental unit the Marine Corps Special Operations Command Detachment. It will be based at Camp Pendleton.
The Marines will select 86 of their best for the two-year trial program. They begin training in June.
They will secretly scout the enemy and gather intelligence.
