Article: Case of the month: viral pneumonia. (Literature Review & Commentary).

A middle-aged woman presented to the office with a 3-week history of cough, fever, myalgia, fatigue, and shortness of breath. The patient reported that a chest x-ray, done early in the course of the illness, was suggestive of pneumonia. She had been treated sequentially with 3 different antibiotics, none of which appeared to be helpful. Given the failure of antibiotic therapy, a presumptive diagnosis of viral pneumonia was made.
