The recently concluded, seven-day Asian and Pacific Population Conference was supposed to raise the profile of efforts undertaken over the past decade to improve family planning, expand legal rights for women and gender equality, combat HIV and AIDS and poverty.
Instead, the high profile went to the Bush administration's continuing crusade against safe, legal abortion.
