Twelve-year-old Jonathan Prince waited in line outside the Oncenter Sunday for about five hours for a free bicycle, but instead he left empty-handed.
There were 770 reconditioned bicycles up for grabs as part of the seventh annual holiday bicycle and helmet giveaway sponsored by DeWitt Memorial Funeral Home, Fayetteville Dodge, the Onondaga County Bicycle Safety Coalition and Greater Syracuse Safe Kids.
There were about 1,000 people who showed up to take one, or more, home. More than 400 people left without a bike. Instead, they filled out voucher forms.
