ST. Louis -- The mechanical forces of labor and delivery result in a relatively predictable pattern of endopelvic fascial damage, Dr. Carl W. Zimmerman said at the 12th International Pelvic Reconstructive and Vaginal Surgery Conference.
Familiarity with this characteristic pattern aids in restoration of normal anatomy during reconstructive surgery. A surgeon who knows where to look for fascial breaks is more likely to identify and repair them all, added Dr. Zimmerman, an ob.gyn. at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tenn.
