By snapping up The Galleria in White Plains and a mall in New Jersey, The Mills Corp. accomplished by acquisition what it could not achieve from the ground up--gain a foothold in the metropolitan area.
Weeks before announcing its $621 million acquisition of The Galleria and five other malls nationwide, Mills emerged as the other leading finalist for the right to redevelop the 84-acre Ridge Hill campus in Yonkers.
And last year, Mills announced it wanted to build a 2.1 million-square-foot retail-entertainment center on 592 acres in Carlstadt, N.J., near the Meadowlands sports complex.
