As 2002 draws to a close, the optical disc business is starting to recover. DVD continues to proliferate. Many equipment companies and service bureaus are projecting definite improvement over the disastrous results of 2001. As a matter of fact, the rampant consolidation and merger activity seen during the last 18 months may best be described as a return to business as usual. Of course, our industry has experienced dramatic change. But the good news is that businesses reacted to the economic pressures and have repositioned themselves to better serve the needs of their customers -- and their customers' customers.
