Copy protection technology giant Macrovision (Santa Clara, CA) has acquired competitor Midbar Technologies (Tel Aviv, Israel) and anti-piracy developer TTR Technologies (New York, NY) in a $22 million dollar deal. Macrovision is paying $5.25 million for TTR and $17 million for Midbar, with an additional $8 million over two years tied to a revenue-based performance earn-out in the Midbar deal.
Midbar is the developer of two Cactus Data Shield systems, the CDS100 and CDS200, that it says have been used on more than 45 million CDs worldwide. Macrovision is the developer of SafeAudio, SafeDisc and SafeCast technologies.
