COUNTRYSIDE: I am writing in hopes that I can find some information on the possible resurrection of the Homesteading Act, by which the government grants incentives to people who want to get back to the land and/or start small businesses or farms with their homestead property.
My husband and I recently purchased a small farm in Northern Michigan. He is a computer software developer and was working from home until he was laid off last year. For one year he lived and worked in New Hampshire, and he is now in Detroit, living and working (four hours away). There is no work of his kind near here.
