LAS VEGAS - Katie Hnida made history Wednesday by becoming the first woman to participate in a Division I football game. She just wishes it was worth remembering.
Hnida, a junior who is New Mexico's third-string kicker, was sent on to the field to kick the extra point after the Lobos scored in the first quarter. But her kick was blocked by UCLA linebacker Brandon Chillar.
``I thought the kick was going through when I hit it,'' Hnida said. ``Boy, when I saw that guy's hand and it had a tremendously low trajectory. ... I didn't expect this. I always thought it would go right through.''
