Dec. 30--Area merchants have noted sharp increases in shoplifting during past holiday seasons, but this year's losses appear to have been less severe.
"It was a real noneventful holiday season as far as the criminal element goes," said Hurst police officer Alan Cabano, who patrols at North East Mall. "Everything's down."
Grapevine police Cpl. Larry Hallmark tells a similar story.
"If there is an increase... it's real slight," he said.
That is not what retailers and other experts have come to expect.
