Article: University of Tennessee Physics Team Plays Role in Japanese Experiment.

Dec. 30--It took nearly 4,000 tons of mineral oil and 2,000 photo-multiplier tubes to do it, but scientists believe they have finally solved one of modern physics' most enduring mysteries.

Because of research conducted this year at the Kamioka Liquid Scintillator Anti-Neutrino Detector in Japan, scientists now believe they have discovered why subatomic particles called neutrinos seem to appear far less frequently than they should, according to physics Professor Bill Bugg of the University of Tennessee.
