As predicted by Moore`s Law, the speed of Ethernet has increased - first to 10 Mbps, then to 100 Mbps and recently to an entire gigabit per second (1 Gbps). At the same time, the price of Ethernet has decreased, promising ever higher levels of market penetration.

Correspondingly, networks have become more valuable. As explained by Metcalfe`s Law, networks have become exponentially more valuable, as the numbers of users have swelled to hundreds of millions.
