SCOTLAND'S beleaguered fishing industry could be taken over by Spain 'within months', experts claimed last night.
They warned that Spain is preparing to take advantage of the Draconian quota cuts imposed by the EC on Scottish boats last week, which have left the fleet facing bankruptcy.
The fears are being voiced because, from January 1, Spanish and Portuguese fishing boats will - for the first time - be given full access rights to the North Sea.
The two countries were restricted from the area when they joined the EU in 1985, but the limits will be lifted next week, in accordance with a longstanding European ...
