MULTIPLE CHEMICAL SENSITIVITY (MCS) has become an increasingly frequent diagnosis in patients with symptoms associated with exposures to different environmental chemicals. Whereas MCS was first described by Randolph, (1) the following most common definition was given by Cullen (2): MCS is an acquired disorder characterized by recurrent symptoms of multiple organ systems, occurring in response to demonstrable exposure to different chemically unrelated substances at doses far below those established in the general population to cause harmful effects, and no widely accepted physiologic function tests correlate with these symptoms.
