University of Oregon professor Siegfried "Zig" Engelmann earned national recognition this month for his Direct Instruction program, a controversial teaching method he developed more than 30 years ago.
The Council of Scientific Society Presidents gave Engelmann its annual Educational Research Award, which recognizes research that's been proven to improve student learning.
While Engelmann doubts that the award will carry much weight with the educational establishment, he said he was "tickled" to receive it.
