Got a beefy boat? If so, don't take any unnecessary chances by trailering it with wimpy transom tie-downs. I recently bent the buckle on one of my tiedowns trying to put a little too much tension on the webbing, so I replaced them both with a set of Epco BTDT-4 over-center buckle tiedowns.
Buckle tie-downs are a lot sturdier than the old thumb-release style. According to an Epco engineer I spoke with, the objective behind transom tiedowns is to keep the trailer with the boat, not the boat with the trailer. So since each BTDT-4 tie-down has a minimum breaking strength of 1200 pounds, unless ...
