In November 2002, the resignation of Patrick Tierney as head of Thomson Financial sparked a shift in management at Thomson Corp. (See the News-Break at http://www.infotoday.com/newsbreaks/nb021125-1.htm.) Richard J. Harrington, Thomson's president and CEO, took the opportunity to shift the top executives in three of the four major groups at the giant corporation. Harrington has long espoused a strategy of executive cross-training in the vast Thomson empire. The company has some $7.2 billion in annual sales, 44,000 employees worldwide, and an estimated 20 million customers.
