EPA FINES THE TENNESSEE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
$40,000 FOR CLEAN WATER ACT VIOLATIONS
ATLANTA, Nov. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has fined the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) $40,000 for the unauthorized channelization of Town Creek and the filling of adjacent wetlands in conjunction with the construction of the Highway 68 By-Pass at Highway 27 in 1989 in Spring City, Tenn.
TDOT has restored the channelized portion of Town Creek by the removal of concrete liners and placement of vegetated structures in the stream which will enhance its aquatic habitat. In addition TDOT has ...
