nice. Such was Lawrence Dallaglio's two-word assessment of rugby union's newly commissioned Parker Pen Challenge Cup when it was unveiled ahead of this weekend's quarterfinals, in which London Wasps face Stade Francais at Adams Park.
Mercifully, his description was right. After all, the splendid new trophy might well have been one of sport's myriad horrifying designs. One thinks witheringly of the absurd Intertoto Cup, so small and odd-looking as to be a near-embarrassment to lift in triumph.
This is not how it should be. The Shorter Oxford English Dictionary tells us that the word trophy can mean any spoil or prize taken ...
