As a child, I spent many summer nights on the screened porch of my family's lakefront camp. On warm, humid evenings, the porch light reached far into the darkness, beckoning hundreds of flying, aquatic insects to several windows, where they would cling tenaciously to the screens until sunrise. There I would find them the next morning, and wonder at their shapes, colors and identities. Though summer vacation never seemed to last long enough, it was a perfect time to immerse myself in all that nature had to offer.
