What Michael Sheppard saw last weekend was not what he was expecting.
The 62-year-old farmer received a telephone call at 3pm on Sunday from Joan Reynolds, a 92-year-old woman living in an isolated spot above the River Towy in the Brecon Beacons. Two of her dogs, she explained anxiously, had gone missing.
Mr Sheppard jumped into his van and drove 15 miles across the hills in this remote part of Wales to Mrs Reynolds's cottage. It's a journey he does every day to light the old lady's fire, bring her provisions and feed her animals.
