Jan. 11--California's beleaguered Imperial Irrigation District, saying it is being "illegally punished" for triggering a massive federal cut of Southern California's Colorado River water supply, sued the Department of the Interior on Friday.
The 56-page suit, filed late Friday afternoon in U.S. District Court in El Centro, seeks to block the Department of the Interior from taking some 67 billion gallons of Colorado River water from the rural Irrigation District in 2003.
