Jan. 14--Thai Oil Co's financial position is strong enough to cope with oil price fluctuations this year, following a third consecutive year in the black with a 2002 net profit of 500 million baht, according to managing director Chulchit Bunyaketu.

Mr Chulchit said the refining company last year sold 12 billion litres of finished oil products, representing 30 percent of the total domestic market. To meet rising demand, Thaioil stepped up its refining capacity by 7 percent to 206,000 barrels per day, or 94 percent of capacity.
