Jan. 15--It took longer than anticipated, but shipping and minerals giant Oglebay Norton has closed the deal to buy Erie Sand & Gravel.
Erie Sand & Gravel, a 115-year-old company that is one of Erie's links to its Great Lakes maritime heritage, has become a part of Oglebay Norton's Great Lakes Minerals Segment, officials of the two companies confirmed Monday.
Cleveland-based Oglebay Norton, the largest U.S. operator of ships on the Great Lakes and the largest producer of limestone in the Great Lakes basin, announced a year ago -- on Jan. 12, 2002 -- that it had an ...
