NEW YORK -- CD-Recordable compact discs (CD-Rs) are an emerging, rapidly growing field within the larger compact disc (CD) industry, with complex, still evolving technology.

According to Information Resources Inc., sales of CDR discs rose an attention-grabbing 141.4% for the year ended November 3.

CD-R discs are used for everything from backing up computer files to customizing music compilations.

Such suppliers as Maxell Corp. of America and Fuji Photo Film U.S.A. Inc. are offering products with particular appeal to young people, who dominate the CD-R market.
