AGRICULTURE DEPARTMENT ACCUSED OF 'SERIOUS ERROR' OVER SUGAR IMPORTS
WASHINGTON, Dec. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- A representative of the domestic sweetener industry said today that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) "made a serious error" in announcing an increase of 417,000 short tons of sugar that will be permitted to be imported into the United States during this marketing year.
Dalton Yancey, the Washington representative of the Rio Grande Valley Sugar Growers, said, "The USDA announcement is a blow to Texas, Louisiana and Florida sugar farmers who are in mid-harvest with yields higher than USDA's estimates. These farmers are just now recovering ...
