The word "censorship" arouses cries of indignant passion in this day and age _ no mind police in the Land of the Free, thank you. That's for dictatorships. We tend to forget that Hollywood operated under a system of censorship called the Production Code throughout its studio system heyday.
Mick LaSalle certainly hasn't forgotten. His book ``Complicated Women,'' published in 2000, explored full-blooded female characters in American movies between 1929 and 1934, the year that the Code became the law of the land. Now he's back with ``Dangerous Men,'' a reverent look back at guys such as James Cagney, Clark Gable, Richard Barthelmess ...
